Fossil Seashells

Photoetry projected on sand-coated panel, 16 x 24 inches

Photoetry is my own invention, a way to restrict the construction of poetry to the content of found text that I photograph while traveling. This poem is composed of words from a paleontological interpretive sign in Santa Elena Canyon, through which the U.S.-Mexico border and the Rio Grande flow in the Big Bend. For exhibition, I projected the poem onto a panel coated with a mixture of paint, limestone, and sand from the banks of the Rio Grande.
